The English tea party is perhaps as famous as Her Highness is! It is a tradition which has never lost its flavour. Forget about losing it flavour, it has in fact managed to percolate down in to the other countries and now we find the 'Memsaabs' and 'Begums' of the mighty Indian empire spending their lazy afternoons in an English Tea Party discussing the trials and tribulations of owning one gram less of gold than the next door lady who has a stick for a husband! How thought provoking!
Anyway, did you think we were losing out in race? well think again mister! Cause we have our very own 'Kaapi' to boast of ! When you think of South India, you immediately thinks of a nine yaards clad 'Maami' holding a 'Dabbara-tumbler' full of filter kaapi ! Ah, the very thought of this make me yearn for one right away! All those NRI maapilais and their dutiful wives who got packed away to foreign land in no time after a proper arranged family - would do anything to get a tumble of filter kaapi...
Southies are illustrious for a few eternally lasting things... Idly with a bucket full of sambar, Maami and their 9 yaards, filter coffee...( Not Bru ) and of course our very own boys who after dutiful completion of their engineering degree in a 'premium' engineering school in Chennai is packed off the the US for a Masters and now works for Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, Goldman Sacs blah blah... ;) And these boys after 4 yrs in US now pronounce 'Multi Modal' as ' MULL-TIE MOODAL' because its so totally American! Oops i almost forgot about the boys in the other parts of the world! The one I am all set to marry has an accent too... :) He says ' yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa' and not just yeah! because its so totally Australian!
Ah.. what am i complaining about? After all at the end of the day these NRI maapilais come home in their Mercedes, take a shower and dutifully do their 'Sandya vandanam'
After which they wait in anticipation for the Dabra Tamblar Sudaaana Kaapi and the Madisaar clad Maami! Lo and behold, in walks a girl in jeans and t-shirt with a ceramic mug of Folgers coffee...
Life is just a set of cups & saucers!!!
